What kind of app is stac?

stac is a font preview and management app for macOS. It lets you browse installed local fonts and Google Fonts while adjusting size, weight, spacing, line height, and other preview settings.

What systems does it support?

stac supports macOS 12 Monterey or later. It works on both Intel Macs and Apple Silicon Macs. Windows and Linux are not supported.

Pricing and licenses

Pricing

Can I use it for free?

Yes. The Free plan includes local font preview, Google Fonts preview, comparison mode for up to 8 fonts, up to 5 favorite lists, up to 5 tags, ratings, and notes.

What are Founding Supporter, Early Supporter, and Launch Offer?

They are limited pricing tiers for early supporters of stac Pro. Founding Supporter is for the first 50 purchases, Early Supporter is for the next 100, and Launch Offer is available for 14 days from the official release date.

When does the price change?

Founding Supporter and Early Supporter move to the next tier when the combined number of lifetime and yearly purchases reaches each limit. Launch Offer ends 14 days after the official release date. Please confirm the final amount on the Stripe checkout page.

Will the yearly plan renew at the same price?

Yes. Yearly plans continue renewing at the tier price at which they were purchased. If you cancel and subscribe again later, the price available at that time will apply.

What changes when I upgrade to Pro?

Comparison mode expands to 30 fonts, favorite lists and tags become unlimited, drag-and-drop fonts remain saved after restart, and Pro-only detail view controls become available.

How many Macs can use one license?

One license can be used on up to two Macs for your own use. To use another Mac, remove an existing device registration first and then activate the new Mac.

What payment methods are supported?

Credit cards including Visa, Mastercard, American Express, and JCB are supported. Apple Pay, Google Pay, and similar methods may appear depending on Stripe Checkout availability.

Do you offer refunds?

Because stac Pro is a digital product, returns or refunds for customer convenience are generally not accepted. Duplicate charges, payment issues, or serious defects are reviewed individually.

Data and fonts

Data

Does stac upload font files to its server?

No. Local fonts and drag-and-drop font files are not uploaded to stac servers. Preview and organization data is generally processed and stored on your Mac.

Can I use Google Fonts commercially?

Fonts listed on Google Fonts can be used according to each font license. Many are open-source fonts that can be used commercially, but you should confirm the license before using any font.

Will stac install fonts automatically?

No. Dragging a font into stac does not install it on your Mac. If you want to use a font officially, install it with Font Book or your usual font installation flow.

Can I use stac offline?

Local fonts and saved data are available offline. New Google Fonts previews, Pro license activation, and automatic update checks require an internet connection.

Chrome extension

stac Font Finder

What can stac Font Finder do?

stac Font Finder is a Chrome extension that lets you click text on a web page and inspect CSS font information such as font-family, font-size, font-weight, line-height, color, and background-color.

Captured information can be copied one card at a time, copied from all visible cards, checked again from recent captures in the popup, or saved to the stac app.

Where can I install stac Font Finder?

You can install it from the stac Font Finder page on the Chrome Web Store.

Used together with the stac app, it can save font information found on the web into stac.

How do I save captured font information to stac?

Open stac, open the Chrome extension connection from the bookmark icon in the top bar, and turn the connection on.

Copy the Bridge URL and Pairing Token into the Chrome extension popup and save them. Then press Save to stac on a captured font card. The item is saved under Web font finds in stac.

Does it identify the exact font rendered by the browser?

The extension captures the font-family candidates specified in CSS. Browser fallback behavior and service-specific internal or generic names can affect the final rendered font, so it does not guarantee a single exact font identification.

After saving to stac, you can use the font-family candidates to search local fonts and Google Fonts.

Can it inspect text inside images or videos?

No. stac Font Finder reads CSS font information from text elements on web pages. It does not estimate fonts in images or videos.

Does the extension send captured information to an external server?

The extension does not send captured font information to external servers by itself. When you press Save to stac, it sends the item only to the local stac app endpoint on 127.0.0.1.

Recent captures, the Bridge URL, and the Pairing Token are stored in Chrome for the connection. See the Privacy Policy for details.
